Southampton Manager Mauricio Pochettino has risen as one of the leading candidates to take over from Tim Sherwood at Tottenham.

The Argentine manager only has one year left remaining on his current contract at Southampton, but this has not stopped speculation from brewing about his future as “all possibilities are open”,after this week it has emerged that Tim Sherwood will be relived of managerial duites in the summer. Pochettino has admitted that the Premier League is the only place he would want to manage in the long term, and says that “At the end of the season i will be speaking with the club (regarding a new contract)”.

In a recent interview Potchettino has said “In football i am accustomed to living with these rumours, i have lived with them all my life.”, “
I am calm. I am focused on my job which is to get as many points as we can from the last five games.”,
“I dont talk about rumours. I have one more year left on my contract and am focussed on my job.”,
“Is my future in England? Yes, yes, yes. I would like to be in the Premier League, its the best in the world and i would like to be here for many years to come.”

It is unclear to see why Southampton would let Pochettino go, especially after this seasons performances, where they now lie 8th, 9 points behind Manchester United. But it seems that the lure of Tottenham is enough to prize the manager away from Saint Mary’s.
