Premier League clubs Liverpool and Arsenal have been handed a major blow in their pursuit of Ligue 1 top scorer Alexandre Lacazette.
The Lyon forward has netted 21 times this season for the French club and has attracted interest from some of Europe’s major clubs. With Liverpool looking to replace last season’s hero Luis Suarez after his departure to Barcelona this summer and Arsenal still short of quality options up front, they had seemingly become the frontrunners for his signature.
The Premier League clubs have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the 23 year-old with club president Jean-Michel Aulas formally stating that the club’s most sought after player is not for sale.
“Alexandre is not for sale. He is part of the generation of players we want to take to the new stadium,” statedAulas.
It now seems the clubs will have to look elsewhere to find their ideal man.
