Rafa Benitez insists he is expecting some positive news following Newcastle United’s shocking 2-1 win over Manchester City.

The win came at a crucial time as The Magpies were hovering around the relegation zone. Inactivity in the transfer market also frustrated the Tyneside club and Benitez even issued an ultimatum to owner Mike Ashley who has been trying to sell the club for the last few months.

In the midst of the ongoing crisis the victory against the title holders has brought in a pale of fresh air as Newcastle have moved up to 14th place with 24 points, five points adrift of the relegation zone.

Benitez is also likely to have his first arrival of January as the club has agreed on a deal for Miguel Almiron with Atalanta United which could break the club record fee they paid for Michael Owen.

Benitez said, “Yesterday I didn’t know where we were. Today before the game they told me we are progressing with some names.

“Now we have to see if we finalise everything and it’s right. I think they would be good deals for us.

“I knew before the game that we were closer so hopefully we have some good news tomorrow and that means we can have more competition in the squad and it will be positive for the rest of the season.”
