Rafa Benitez insists his contractual situation hasn’t changed at Newcastle United.
The Spaniard is currently on his last year of contract and talks of a new deal have intensified in the last few months. Benitez hinted earlier he is ready to commit his long term future in the Tyneside but is yet to put pen to paper.
Newcastle lost against Arsenal 2-0 in the lost match and their fate is still hanging over a thread. The Toons are adrift of seven healthy points from the drop zone but the Spanish manager wants to ensure their safety first before signing the extension.
Benitez said, “At the moment, I’m only concentrated on what I can do, and that’s to prepare the team for the next game.
“People can talk about things, and that’s normal in football. Players, managers, whatever. The only thing I can do now is try to do the job properly and stay in the Premier League.
“Nothing has changed. We’re exactly the same as we were some days ago. We’re in the same position, the same situation. I’m just trying to concentrate on Crystal Palace.”
