Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson secretly agreed Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid a year before it was finalised.

The 29 year-old world star left the Premier League in 2009 to join the Champions League winners for a then record breaking fee of ÂŁ80 million pounds.

An agreement however was reportedly thrashed out a year earlier at the home of United’s former assistant manager, Carlos Quieroz.

And Quieroz has shed light on this extraordinary tale in an interview.

“Look, for example, the decision to open Manchester United’s doors for him to go to Real Madrid was taken in my house, amid my family,” he said.

“When doubts arose, I managed to bring Alex Ferguson and Cristiano together at my house.”

“With the three of us sat down, it was decided that Cristiano would stay another year at United and leave the following year for Real.”

Quieroz went on to reveal that months after the deal was supposedly struck, Ferguson blasted Real as he said: “You don’t think we’d get into a contract with that mob, do you?

“Jesus Christ, I wouldn’t sell them a virus. So that’s a no — there is no agreement between the clubs.”
