Liverpool have landed youngster and will loan him back out

Red Star Belgrade have announced the sale of Marko Grujic to Liverpool.

The youngster has been a target of the Reds for the past few months, and after failing to land him over the summer, it looked like the deal was all-but over.

However, the two clubs continued talks outside the transfer period and they have now come to an agreement.

Grujic will spend the remainder of the season on-loan at Red Star before completing a permanent move to Liverpool in the summer ahead of next season.

Statement

In a club statement, they said: “We received offers from Anderlecht for €2m, Stuttgart for €5m and Liverpool for €7m and 10% of the next transfer.

“The club want to thank Marko Grujic for 10 years of service but the financial situation dictates the decision.

“The board considered the offer and accepted the proposal from Liverpool to pay the money immediately and the player to stay at Red Star until 1/07/2016.

“Marko Grujic should continue to develop at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“We are convinced, just like Liverpool, that he has the qualities to have a great career in England.”

Liverpool will pay ÂŁ5.1million for the midfielder after Ian Ayre agreed to a deal during talks last week.
