Everton manager Roberto Martinez is ready to take part in his first ever Merseyside Derby this weekend as his Everton side host Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool.

The two teams have enjoyed good starts to the 2013/2014 campaign with The Reds sitting in second and The Toffees not far behind in sixth, just three points off their Merseyside rivals.

Martinez has been talking ahead of the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday at Goodison Park and he has admitted that a lot of people have been telling him stories about the derby and he cannot wait to experience the occasion first-hand.

He said: ‘I’ve heard many stories, especially from the kit room. I know how unique this is, it will not be like anything I have experienced.

‘The red and the blue set out in the city, through families and in the work place.

‘It is a quite unique game. There is extra significance on this one, given that the two teams are in the top six. This is as big as a football game can be.’
