Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has vetoed the idea of giving midfielder Frank Lampard a one-year extension, despite Jose Mourinho keen on rewarding the veteran with another year at Stamford Bridge.

The England international, who is getting ready for this Summer’s World Cup in Brazil, admitted in a recent interview that he wants to continue playing for The Blues for another three years, but today it’s being reported that Abramovich doesn’t want to offer him an extension.

The 35-year-old has hinted that if Chelsea don’t want him, he will end his career and retire, as he doesn’t want to feature for another club, ending his 13-year association with the West-London club.

Abramovich has told Mourinho that he wants to build a younger team, and with Lampard soon-to-be 36, his age has gone against him and the Russian owner wants him to leave the club this Summer.

American clubs are reportedly interested in signing Lampard, and so are Queens Park Rangers, managed by Lampard’s Uncle, Harry Redknapp, but early suggestions seem that retirement is the favoured option.
