Wayne Rooney is seeking more European glory for him and Manchester United after their success in the 2008 campaign against fellow finalists Chelsea. Since then Manchester United have reached two Champions League finals, both times against Barcelona and lost both times.

Champions League success seems to be the only way Manchester United will qualify for next seasons competition, after a disappointing domestic campaigning, where they are currently sixth and eleven points off of fourth placed and fierce rivals Liverpool.

Manchester United will play Olympiakos in the first knock out round and are favourites to progress to the quarter finals.

Speaking about the Champions League Rooney said “One is never enough, especially at this club,” said Rooney. “We need to keep trying to get into finals.”

Rooney has recently signed a new long term contract worth a ÂŁ300,000 a week which has received criticism from the public. Adding to his comment about the Champions League, Rooney claimed “The feeling you get when you win a trophy is incredible, so you don’t want to stop at one.

“If we can go to the final, it’d be great for us. It would be an opportunity to win another trophy, so hopefully we can do that.

“I grew up all my life wanting to win trophies. That’s the main aim. That’s what you’ll be judged on when you finish your career.”

Manchester United not competing in next years Champions League would be seen as a massive failure and something that was never even considered at the start of the season. If Manchester United are to win the Champions League they must first get past Olympiakos.
