Roy Hodgson says Crouch isn’t good enough for England

England manager Roy Hodgson has told Peter Crouch that if he wants to get a call up to his England squad, he will have to improve and match the quality he already has.

Questions were asked when the new England boss didn’t call up Crouch for the World Cup Qualifiers and even more were asked when he didn’t call him up even after Andy Carroll got ruled out through injury.

Despite having 22 goals in 42 England caps, Roy Hodgson still doesn’t have Crouch in mind for his plans.

‘I did try to sign him at Fulham and I selected him for the Euros as well,’ said Hodgson.

‘He was on a standby list but he made it clear that, unless he was in the squad, he didn’t want to be considered.

‘I’m not going to bring him in to fill up the bench.

He added:
‘The day Crouch gets into an England squad is when I think he should be in the original 23.’
