Arsenal and Tottenham have been told they will need to cough up £40m if they want Douglas Costa. The Brazilian is believed to be unsettled at current club Shakhtar Donetsk, due to the conflict that is taking place in the region where the club is based.

The situation has put Spurs and the Gunners on high alert, with both teams registering an interest in the 23-year old. The attacking midfielder is believed to prefer a move to the Emirates but Tottenham are still also considering a move.

However, Shakhtar have now slapped a HUGE £40m price tag on Costa’s head. Speaking to the club’s website, Sergei Palkin claimed there had been no bids yet and that any team who wanted the player would have to meet his £40m buyout clause. He said:

“Everyone says that Costa’s goodbye is close, but the club has not received any proposals and his buyout clause is €50million.”

Some reports are claiming that Arsenal may now be contemplating a loan move for the Brazilian but Arsene Wenger would much rather sign him on a permanent deal.
