Since last season, people have started to notice the potential and current quality Luke Shaw possesses as a left back. This season he has featured prominently for Southampton who has performed exceedingly well this season and many see Luke Shaw as a massive factor in their success.

However with this level of performances, comes interest and speculation from the bigger teams in the League. Even in January their were rumours speculating that Chelsea or Manchester United would attempt to sign the young English left back, however nothing emerged.

Now it seems Manchester City have joined the race to sign the youngster as Shaw would provide a good long term investment. There are cases for all three teams needing to sign Luke Shaw in the summer.

Manchester United has had massive problems this season and their defence is a massive factor in their decline, with most of their defence aging and being rumoured to leave at the end of the season. Their current left back Patrice Evra is one of the defenders rumoured to be leaving and Luke Shaw would be the perfect fit to replace Evra.

Rumours suggest Chelsea are the favourites to sign Shaw due to him supporting the club and his parents living close to Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham. Ashley Cole ha not featured as often as usual this season and is linked with a move away, again leaving Shaw as an obvious long term replacement.

Finally, Manchester City has struggled with the left back position this season. Originally Gael Clichy what the first choice left back but, has dropped out of the team due to some questionable defensive performances. This has meant Kolarov has taken his place, but many Manchester City fans also question his defensive capabilities. Signing Luke Shaw in the summer would solve this problem if he can perform as well as he has at Southampton at such a young age.

Its clear Southampton will not want to sell such a talented youngster, but with this sought of attention and the potential big money offers that will more than likely happen, Shaw could be set for one of the Premier league giants very soon.
