According to Gol Digital, Athletic Bilbao made a shock approach for Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta
The La Liga side have a policy of only signing Basque born players, and with Azpilicueta having been born in the same region after growing up in Pamplona, Bilbao are keen to find out if the 27 year old is be interested in a return back home.
However, fans can rest easy as reports claim Azpilicueta is thankful for Athletic’s enquiry but has said he is happy to stay in London.
Cesar notched up the most game minutes of any player at Chelsea last season, and has just been given the vice-captaincy by new manager Antonio Conte.
After playing as one the back three last season, everyone is waiting to see whether Azpilicueta remains at centre half or reverts to a full back role after the arrival of Antonio Rudiger from Roma.
A few fans that caught wind of this rumour had one message for the La Liga side…”Back off”.
