Silva Says Pickford Should Not Be Criticized alone

Marco Silva has said that Jordan Pickford should not be singled out to be criticized.

The England and Everton had to face a heavy backlash after conceding six goals against Tottenham.

Everton boss Marco Silva has said that it is not right to single out Jordan Pickford to criticism for Everton’s embarrassing loss against Tottenham by 2-6. The England international made some horrendous errors to see his side go down to Spurs as Harry Kane, Heung Min Son, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli shared the bulk of scoring for the north London side.

However, Silva has been supportive of his defensive ace and has said that it is unfair to criticise Pickford alone for the heavy loss. He said, “It is our job. Not just with Jordan, with all of them.”

He added, “My job is to give them feedback. These type of things happen in the game. It is something which has happened in the last few matches but we have to give them feedback to stop it happening again. Like you expect, everything what I can say about our players I will say inside the dressing room. They can be more smart. I already told them they have to be more aggressive, in football in general you have to be more aggressive if you want to do the right things. In this way you can compete. In the second half (against Tottenham) we didn’t see that. We lost many things in our behaviour and our organisation and at this level you cannot. At half-time I told our players we could not concede any more goals and in the first two minutes of the second half we conceded again. Every time they went forward everything was easy for them. It is something to work on.”
