Wesley Sneijder is to stay with Turkish side Galatasaray, according to the club president Unal Aysal, reports Sky Sports.

The Dutch centre midfielder was a prime target for several clubs across Europe in recent weeks following his performances at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, including both Manchester United, now managed by former Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal, and Chelsea.

Sneijder has been a key figure in the spine of the Galatasaray midfield since signing from Serie A side Internazionale Milan in the summer of 2013, with Sneijder going onto make 40 appearances to date, scoring 15 goals and helping the Istanbul club to a Turkish League and Cup triumph during his two seasons.

The player also reportedly has a 20 million euro release clause

But despite the speculation linking him away, president Aysal has quashed the rumours of the player leaving Turkey.

“Sneijder is going to stay with Galatasaray,” Gala president Aysal stated Turkish media on Tuesday.

“It’s not just our opinion but that of Cesare Prandelli and the player. There can be no talk of a split between us.

“He had a tiring season and right afterwards he played at the World Cup. He will rejoin us after the holidays.”

Sneijder was recently appointed club captain by newly appointed manager Cesare Prandelli, who replaced fellow Italian Roberto Macini as manager of the Turkish giants.
