Southampton are a step closer to signing attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic, on a season long loan deal from Benfica.
Djuricic is currently on loan at Mainz, but the German club are willing to relinquish their hold on the 23 year old.
If Djuricic was to sign for the South Coast club, he would link up with Serbia international teammate Dusan Tadic, both of whom play in similar positions.
Manager Ronald Koeman is also hoping central midfielder Tonny Vilhena will arrive at St. Mary’s from Feyenoord.
Koeman is keen to work with the 20 year old again, who revealed on Friday positive talks had taken place between Southampton and Vilhena’s agent.
With midfielders Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin sidelined by injury, Southampton are in need of cover to keep alive their Champions League aspirations.
Saints are set to have to pay £5 million to secure the services of Vilhena.
