The out of favour Arsenal goalkeeper is rumoured to be a summer target for Southampton.

The Saints will be in the market for a new goal keeper after first choice Fraser Forster’s serious knee injury could see him miss the entirety of next season.

The Poland international has been out of favour at the Emirates after a string of poor performances, losing his place to David Ospina who has impressed during his spell in-between the sticks.

Szczesny Dropped

His dropping was confirmed after he was caught smoking in the showers after the Gunners’ New Years’ day defeat to Southampton.

He was fined ÂŁ20,000, and didn’t start a game until the FA Cup semi-final match against Reading, in which Arsenal won 2-1, with many blaming Szczesny for the Reading goal.

Now it appears the Arsenal youth graduate is set to turn to the team who turned him to tobacco.

Saints Eye Keeper

Saints boss, Ronald Koeman, said that over the remaining games of the season he would give Paulo Gazzaniga a stint in goal, to see if a new keeper is required.

But it would appear the Argentine has not passed the test, with Koeman turning his attention to Szczesny, although it is likely to only be a loan deal, given he will only be cover for Fraser Forster.

Szczesny may also feel obliged to leave given Arsenal’s continuing search for another goalkeeper, a signing that could push the Pole into third choice.

The 25-year-old made his first team debut for the Gunners in 2009 against West Brom in the League Cup. Since then, he has gone on to make 180 appearances for Arsenal.
