Spurs to offer Vertonghen new deal

Tottenham’s Belgian defender, Jan Vertonghen, has recently admitted that he wants to play in the Champions League but he may not be able to achieve that for next season because, following Tottenham’s 1-0 deafeat at Carrow Road, they have fallen 6 points behind Liverpool in 4th and many believe that the top 4 will not change from now until the end of the season, so does this mean that Vertonghen will look to depart White Hart Lane this summer if they do fail to qualify for the Champions League?

He was asked whether or not he would stay at Tottenham if they did fail to qualify for the Champions League and he answered the querie by saying, “Those are always difficult questions. What I want is to play in the Champions League with Tottenham so, hopefully, I will get there this year.”

But Tottenham may be moving swiftly as it is believed that they are considering offering the Belgian a new contract, worth ÂŁ40,000-a-week, with the club having the option to extend his contract by another year at the end of this season. His current deal runs until 2016.
