Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that winger Raheem Sterling will not be leaving the club on loan this month.

The English youngster was reportedly heading out of Anfield for the rest of the season in order to get some first-team game time in the Premier League, with Swansea City interested in his services.

However, after watching his side beat his son’s side Oldham in the FA Cup, Rodgers confirmed that the club have no intentions of letting Sterling leave the club.

Asked if Sterling could leave Liverpool, Rodgers laughed: “No!

“It must have come from one of the media guys checking his in-tray four of five months late.

“It must have been in the in-tray around about August time and he hasn’t looked in it and he’s just picked it up now and put it in the paper.

“I don’t know where it has come from. I don’t think you let a player who is in your team and playing exceptionally well go on loan.

“He was excellent today. His strength and his pace was frightening. He won’t be going anywhere.”
