Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has told Mario Balotelli to step up and prove his worth at the club after a slow-start to his Anfield career.

The Italian striker joined The Reds over the Summer from AC Milan in a deal worth £16million, but since joining, he has only scored twice, neither coming in Premier League action.

Balotelli scored in Liverpool’s 2-1 wins over Ludogorets and Swansea City, but was caught in controversy when he was seen swapping shirts with Pepe at half-time during their 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid.

Some fans have already asked for the striker to be sold, and accoridng to some reports, Brendan Rodgers is considering a quick-sale of the striker, but Gerrard has urged the Italian to prove his worth in the next few months.

‘He needs time to score the goals and prove to be people he is worthy of staying here,’ he told the Daily Mail.

‘I am not going judge him after 10 games. I have to help and support him.

‘To come in after Suarez is tough. A big ask. But Mario has the ability to turn it around.’
