Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that youngster Serge Gnabry could shine this season, after starting for the first-team against Stoke City on Sunday.

The youngster was an unexpected starter due to Theo Walcott pulling out just moments before the game got underway and despite a slow start, the German slowly found his feet throughout the game and showed glimpses of what he can do.

Wenger has already confirmed that he will feature against West Bromwich Albion tomorrow in the Capital One Cup and the Frenchman believes this is his chance to prove what he can do, especially with both Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out injured.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for him,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “He can play right or left or even behind the striker. He can even play as a striker. I believe against Stoke what I liked in his game is that he grew through the game, he became better and better.

“He was a bit timid in the first half but in the second half he made some good interceptions, some good passes and some good first touches that I liked.”

“He has the quality to be creative because he can dribble, he can run with the ball, he can be a good passer and he is a great finisher,” said the manager.

“On that front, once the confidence level [rises] he will be alright. His physical qualities, his technical qualities are at the requested level.”
