Tim Sherwood believes Alexis Sanchez should have joined Manchester City instead of moving to Manchester United.
Sanchez was grabbed by United in a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan joining Arsenal in the January transfer window. But since his high profile move, the Chilean forward has failed to back up his high wages as he has barely impacted the game for the Red Devils so far.
Sanchez’s most purposeful display probably was in the last match against Newcastle United where he inspired a brilliant comeback as Jose Mourinho’s side fought from two goal down to tame the Magpies 3-2.
There had been a tug of war between the two Manchester giants as Pep Guardiola was very willing to be reunited with his former Barcelona forward. But the big spenders refused to budge on to Sanchez’s wage demands and United pulled off a brilliant coup.
Sherwood said, “He had the opportunity to go to Man City, and if he took that option he would be a superstar now. For whatever reason, he chose to go to Manchester United, and it hasn’t worked out.
“It’s money, possibly, and that’s up to him but you can’t argue that he’s not chosen one of the biggest clubs in the world. He possibly didn’t know how it would turn out, and he couldn’t have imagined what a nightmare it would be for him.
“Hopefully he bounces and goes into the next game with a shot in the arm after the goal he scored against Newcastle, a winning goal, which got everyone lifted and hopefully he’ll take that performance to show what he can do.
“But at the moment, he’s been nothing like the Alexis Sanchez we’ve seen in the Premier League and loved to watch for five or six years.”
