Aston Villa manager joked about striker’s value
Tim Sherwood has joked that he wants £100million for star-striker Christian Benteke, despite the Aston Villa man having a release clause in his contract worth £32.4m.
The Villains boss was speaking in his press conference ahead of the FA Cup Final, and when he was asked about the Belgium international, he admitted that there was a release clause and that he can’t prevent a deal if an offer comes in.
Benteke is wanted by Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal according to reports, after he was in red-hot form during the last 13 games of the campaign.
The 28-year-old netted 12 times in the last 13 games, spearing Villa‘s attack in their Premier League survival and their pursuit of the FA Cup.
However, Sherwood knows that the game at Wembley could be his last for the club.

“But someone has to meet that buyout clause because if they don’t, it won’t even be considered. We don’t want to lose him.
“Liverpool are still a huge football club but it is up to the individual involved. I can’t make that decision for him, I want him to stay here.
“Am I surprised there’s a buyout clause? No, it’s probably £100million!
“Most players would have that when they sign new contracts. I don’t know what the figure is, but it would be quite substantial.”
