Real Madrid are expected to bolster their squad both on and off the field this summer. They had an underwhelming domestic campaign last season as they finished 3rd in the La Liga behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane decided to leave the La Liga giants last month after managing the club for 2.5 years. He won 9 major trophies during his tenure with the club, which includes 3 Champions League, 2 Super Cups, 2 Club World Cups and 1 La Liga title.
“I have decided not to be Real Madrid coach next season,” said former Ballon d’Or winner, who was joined by club president Florentino Perez.
“I spoke to Florentino yesterday [Wednesday] to tell him my thoughts, my feelings. I know it’s a strange moment for everyone involved, but I think it’s the right decision.
“I think this team needs to keep winning but I think after three years a change is needed, something different, a different message, different ways of going about things.
“That’s why I decided to take this decision. It’s a club I love and I love the president too, he brought me to this huge club and I will always be grateful, but I think a change is needed so I will not be here next season.”
The Spanish side has been linked to host of managers and Brazil coach Tite is one of them. His contract with the National team runs out after the World Cup ends and has been heavily tipped to replace Zidane next season.
But the 57 year old has denied any contracts with the Champions League winner and claims he is currently focusing on Brazil’s final World Cup preparations.
“When it is an opinion, it deserves my respect. When it is put in quotation marks, it is a lie; it is a disrespectful and lying attitude. That’s my word,” he told a pre-match news conference ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Austria as quoted by ESPN
“I did not get in touch with anyone. Gilmar Veloz [Tite’s agent], my friend, did not speak to anyone.
“I have a great respect for where I am. I know the responsibilities and the goals I have here.”
