Top 10 Underperforming Footballers This Season in the Premier League 2017/18

Who are the Top 10 Underperforming footballers this season in the Premier League? Have you ever thought of finding out which good players are underperforming this season? Well if you have then worry not because we have prepared a list of the Top 10 Underperforming footballers This Season. As a Chelsea fan, if I had to make a list of 11 players who are underperforming in the Premier League, I would definitely pick most of the Chelsea team excluding Willian who has been in outstanding form for the Blues. However, this list is for the entire Premier League in 2017/18.

Top Ten Good Players That Are Underperforming This Season 2017/18

Previously we published the Top 10 Underrated Players Right Now & Top 10 Best Top Performing Footballers if you haven’t seen them then worry not you can do that after this list.

Here are the Top 10 Underperforming footballers This Season in the Premier League 2017/18.

10. Javier Hernandez – West Ham

Javier Hernandez or ‘chicharito’ makes the Top 10 Underperforming footballers This Season at number ten. The former Manchester United player who is now at the Hammers has failed to live up to his usual standards. The attacker has been disappointing in his debut season for West Ham after his move from Bayer Leverkusen and has not scored many goals leading him to being dropped from the starting team. This is the the reason why he is under performing.

9. Dele Alli- Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli is one of our Top 10 Underperforming footballers This Season. The Spurs player and English international hasn’t scored as many goals as last season where he scored a spectacular 18 goals in the Premier league. This season he has just scored six goals and made nine assists.  The 21-year-old is still young though but he has definitely not lived up to his fantastic form last season.

8. Cesc Fabregas – Chelsea

Cesc Fabregas the Chelsea all round midfielder makes it at eighth place on the list. The Spaniard was quite instrumental in bringing in the title at the Stamford Bridge last season. The quality he portrayed in his debut season as well after his move from FC Barcelona was top class and second to none. The Chelsea fans were in love with his well-timed passes and sang for him during games.

However, the Spaniard has failed to replicate what he did last season and this sees him on this list. He has failed to impress this season and it seems its all due to fatigue. His normally delicious passes are predictable now and he no longer gets those wonderfully crafted assists he is famous for.

7. Wilfried Bony – Swansea City

In seventh place on the Top 10 Underperforming footballers This Season is Ivorian Striker Wilfried Bony . Ever since joining Manchester City, Bony has not lived up to his goalscoring form for Swansea City five years ago. Now back at Swansea after his failure at Stoke City where he joined on loan, Bony has only managed to score two goals in 15 appearances for the Swans and has been dropped out of the first team. This is especially disappointing for Swansea since they paid £12m for his services from Manchester City.

6. Alvaro Morata – Chelsea

It seems the list just keeps getting better and better and this time at number six is Chelsea’s striker Alvaro Morata. It seems this list is filled with Chelsea players and this goes to show just why they are fifth on the Premier League table currently. The Spaniard has failed to score any goals in the Premier League for the past two months and is no longer making those runs in to the opponent’s box. After his scintillating start at Stamford Bridge scoring ten goals- most with his head, Morata’s form has dropped and he seems to have lost his confidence. Now, new Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is threatening to take Morata’s starting spot on the team.

5. Alexandre Lacazette – Arsenal

In fifth place is the Arsenal and France striker Alexandre Lacazette. The striker was in good form last season for Lyon but this season for Arsenal, he hasn’t quite lived up to his reputation and his £52m price-tag.  Now, Arsenal bought a new striker in January 2018, with Aubameyang coming in and the Gabon striker has taken Lacazette’s spot in the first team. The striker has started most of the games on the bench recently which shows how bad he is performing. This is why Lacazette is found on this list of most underperforming footballers this season but if he is given more playing time, he will surely find he form.

4. Granit Xhaka – Arsenal FC

In fourth place is the Gunners holding midfielder Granit Xhaka. The Switzerland International has failed to live up to expectations after his £30m move to the Gunners in 2016. After an underwhelming first season at the club, fans said to wait and give him one more season to adapt.Well he hasn’t yet adapted or he has been a dud buy.  He doesn’t seem to know how to play as a holding midfielder or as a box to box midfielder. He also gives away needless fouls and incurs lots of yellow and red cards. So it’s really unclear as to what exactly he brings to the Arsenal first team. Perhaps it’s time for Arsene Wenger to admit his mistake and stop playing him.

3. David Luiz – Chelsea

In third place on the Top 10 Underperforming footballers this season is the Brazilian centre-back David Luiz. The ‘geezer’ who was one of Chelsea’s best players last season has been struggling this season. He started the season fine, but after a drop in form and after questioning Antonio Conte’s tactics after the 3-0 loss to Roma, Luiz was dropped from the first-team. This was however a blessing in disguise for Chelsea as it allowed Conte to start young Dane Andreas Christensen who has done superbly in Luiz’s role. And while Luiz has also been mostly injured ever since being dropped, he has also underperformed. Luiz has been linked with a move away from the club ever since his falling out with Conte, but if Conte leaves, which is expected, then luiz may stay.

2. Romelu Lukaku- Manchester United

In runners up is the Belgian and Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku. The attacker has started most of Manchester United games but he seems to be lacking the cutting edge upfront. After staring the season well for The Red Devils after his move from Everton, Lukaku has dropped in form and his goals have dried up. His hold-up play is fine, but it’s his lack of runs in behind the defence and his first touch on the ball that lets him down. Fans will expect more from Lukaku next season for Manchester United.

1. Alexis Sanchez – Manchester United

In first place is the Manchester United winger Alexis Sanchez. After his well publicised move from Arsenal to United in the January transfer window, Sanchez’s form has dropped dramatically. The former Arsenal man was scoring goals or assisting in almost every game last season and earlier this season. But since his move to Old Trafford, Sanchez has been poor. Including his appearances for Arsenal this season, Sanchez has only scored eight goals in 25 appearances in the Premier League. And from those eight goals, Sanchez has only scored once for Manchester United in all competitions from 10 appearances.

Compare that to his 24 goals and 10 assists last season and you’ll see why Alexis Sanchez is our number one on our Top 10 underperforming footballers this season list.
