SillySeason looks into first-team players who should consider quitting Anfield

With the transfer window now officially open, business is about to pick up in the transfer market with clubs set to bring in new faces and ship out old ones.

In the past two days, SillySeason have looked into potential sales from clubs and who could be set to leave. First we covered Chelsea (See Here), and then yesterday, we looked into players who should leave Arsenal (See Here).

Today, we are going to focus on Liverpool and highlight five players who should consider quitting the Merseyside club for the sake of their career.

Yesterday it was reported that Brendan Rodgers was ready to sell SEVEN from his current squad, so it does make this article a little easier to put together, but the five choices are pretty obvious players.

So lets begin with five stars who should consider leaving Liverpool.

5) Fabio Borini

Starting the list, which is in no particular order, is Italian striker Fabio Borini, and unsurprisingly this won’t be the only striker on the list that should leave Anfield.

Borini, who spent last season out on loan with Sunderland, decided to snub a permanent move to The Black Cats and ordered his agent to reject any approaches for him as he wanted to stay put at Liverpool.

After deciding to stay over the summer, Borini still failed to break into The Reds‘ first-team and was largely considered as fourth choice, behind Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli.

When called upon, albeit not very often, Borini failed to shine at Anfield and with Danny Ings now arriving from Burnley, Divock Origi returning from his season-long loan at Lille, and another striker likely to come as well, his playing-time will be very limited if he stays put this time around.

A few Serie A clubs are reportedly keen on Borini.

4) Lucas Leiva

The Brazilian midfielder has struggled for regular game-time ever since joining Liverpool, and it looks likely that this summer will see him depart the club.

Lucas Leiva has been very unlucky during his Merseyside career with injuries taking years off him, but now seemingly over the fitness issues, he simply can’t break into Rodgers‘ first-team.

Behind the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson last season, Lucas is likely to be behind new arrival James Milner and also Emre Can, who is expected to play in midfield next season rather than at the back.

Inter Milan and Napoli have previously shown interest in the holding-man, but were told no deal would happen during the January window.

However, this window could see him depart the club.

3) Rickie Lambert

You have to feel for Rickie Lambert.

This time last year he had just secured his dream move to his boyhood club Liverpool. However, a year later he is on the brink of leaving the club after failing to impress.

Some will say Rodgers didn’t give Lambert enough game-time to showcase what he can really do, but the fact is he struggled to show what he did during his Southampton career.

West Bromwich Albion are keen on signing the England international according to reports.

2) Jose Enrique

Remember this guy? Yes he still plays for Liverpool.

Enrique was a superb addition for The Reds after he impressed with Newcastle United, but in the past few seasons, he has faded into the background.

Injuries kept him out for a while, but since then, he has just not been in Rodgers‘ plans.

Alberto Moreno arrived and took the main left-back spot, but the manager tinkering with his tactics also damaged Enrique as The Reds deployed a 3-5-2 formation quite frequently last season.

No real reports suggesting he’s going anywhere, but he certainly won’t be a Liverpool player for much longer.

1) Mario Balotelli

Why Always Him?

When will this guy mature and settle at a club? He seemed to have done that in Italy with AC Milan, but then all of a sudden he wanted out of Serie A because he was getting bored of the competition.

Arrived at Liverpool in a £16million deal and just flopped ever since.

The Italian’s style and approach to the game simply doesn’t work in England. His refusal to run and put a shift in doesn’t help fans warm to him and nor does it improve the manager’s opinion of him.

A move back to Italy would be best for Balotelli as the game is a lot slower and can suit the controversial Italian.

So there are the five we think should be leaving Liverpool this season.
