Tackling is a lost art form in football, but there are still players who try to keep the tradition going.

It’s easy to count tackles, but who are really the best tacklers? Who makes the most impact on their team?

After 4 weeks of the new season, we are beginning to notice some good performers in the Premier League, especially tacklers. There are few relevant statistics that we could take away from the season so far, and some would argue that the most important statistic is the one that tells us who is the top tackler of the league.

Last season, Aaron Wan-Bissaka lead the most defensive stats following a superb campaign in England’s top flight. Will he end up to be the top tackler again, time will tell.

We bring you the Top 5 Premier League players with most tackles so far.

In January 2018, Emerson joined English side Chelsea on a four-and-half-year deal for a total fee of €29 million. He struggled to earn himself playing time under then-boss Maurizio Sarri , but after new boss Frank Lampard arrived at the club that has a transfer ban by FIFA, he has finally established himself into the squad.

The Brazilian has 15 successful tackles this season so far.

The Scotland international moved to Villa Park in August 2018 from Hibernian despite interest from boyhood club Celtic. The Scotsman was a key figure for the Villans as they secured promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last season, contributing seven goals and nine assists in his debut season for the club.

The Aston Villa midfielder has already shown he could be a standout value pick in 2019/2020. He has managed to make 17 successful tackles so far.

3. Erik Pieters

The 30-year-old Erik Pieters arrived at Burnely on a two-year deal from Stoke City. Pieters was out of favor at the Bet365 stadium, having finished last season’s campaign on loan at Ligue 1 side Amiens and he has duly been snapped up by Dyche.

The new Burnley recruit impressed in a 3-0 win over Southampton on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign. As well as contributing to a clean sheet the Dutchman provided two assists for Ashley Barnes as the Clarets recorded their biggest opening day win since 1966. So fa,r he hashad 18 successful tackles.

2. Ricardo Pereira

After once winning the Premier League, Leicester City come to the new seasons with high ambitions. There was an interesting addition to their squad last season, the Portuguese right-back, Ricardo Pereira. Pereira was bought from FC Porto last summer with quite a hefty fee, €22 million. That price tag was logical considering the fact that he was one of Porto’s main protagonists to help the club clinching the Liga NOS title.

So far with more than 4 league games under his belt, Pereira has proved himself as one of the highest-potential full-backs in the Premier League with 20 successful tackles.

Judging by the statistics from last season in the Premier League, everybody realized that Manchester United have a serious defender on their hands in the shape of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. That is why they had no doubts about whether to snap up, or let the competition add a high-profile defender in their ranks.

Last season, he has the most clearances, most tackles won, most take-ons completed, most interceptions and the highest tackle success rate. Even with four games down this season, nothing has changed – Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the Premier League’s most successful tackler with 26 tackles so far.
