Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that winger Gareth Bale is close to joining Spanish giants Real Madrid after months of speculation.

The winger has been wanted by Madrid since the start of the summer and after plenty or reports and plenty of tapping up, it finally looks like they are set to sign their most-wanted target.

The La Liga giants are prepared to offer Spurs ÂŁ86million for the Welshman, which will beat the transfer fee record which is currently ÂŁ80million, also spent by Madrid when they signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

Reports broke out yesterday that Bale was furious with Spurs and even refused to turn up to training and now the manager has confirmed that he is close to leaving White Hart Lane.

Villas-Boas said: “He is involved in a big transfer move to Real Madrid and in the end if it happens, we wish him all the best – what he left here was great memories. But the fact that he hasn’t turned up is not the correct behaviour.

“That is the position they (Bale and his representatives) chose to take and it’s up to the club to decide if it’s a fineable offence.”

Despite not turning up to the training ground, AVB refused to blame Bale for the whole transfer saga.

“No – I think he obviously had a great season. What is happening is a dream move for him.

“In the end there will be a three-way agreement. Tottenham will accept the biggest deal in world football. In the end I think, if Tottenham accepts it and everything goes all right it will be the end of the story.”
