Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be one of a number of clubs weighing up a surprise move for out-of-favour Sunderland front man Steven Fletcher in the January transfer window,
The north Londoners are currently in desperate need of a more strength in depth up front at White Hart Lane in the second half of this campaign, with new Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood currently only able to call upon the services of Spain international Roberto Soldado and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor now that Jermain Defoe has all but agreed to join Major League Soccer outfit Toronto FC on a bumper contract.
All of which means that Spurs are now scouring the market both at home and on the Continent in the search for a new forward to bring to White Hart Lane to help support their only two out-and-out attackers in the second half of the campaign as the club seek to seal a top-four finish in the Premier League, and with it a place in next season’s Uefa Champions League.
And the player Tottenham are said to be monitoring is the Black Cats’ Scotland international, who has a deal at the Stadium of Light until June 2016.
