Costa could be heading back to the Vicente Calderon

Chelsea will demand the £32 million they paid Atletico Madrid for Diego Costa in 2014, if the striker is to return to Spain.

After a season which has seen Costa criticised, alongside a number of other Chelsea players, the Brazil-born striker has found form in the second half of the season, with 11 goals, which could see him return to Atletico.

The Blues will, in effect, ask for a refund on Costa, who was prolific last season, as they went on to win the Premier League, but has blown hot and cold this campaign.

Chelsea aren’t against the idea of letting the 27-year-old leave, but won’t let him go for anything less than they signed him for, nearly two seasons ago. And Costa is reportedly going to force a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Filling the void

Costa is expected to fill the gap left by summer signing Jackson Martinez, who left Atletico for the Chinese Super League in January, following an unimpressive spell at the Vicente Calderon.

Luciano Vietto has not impressed Diego Simeone in his first season in charge, and will look for another striker, with Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain and Alexandre Lacazette all targets for the club.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are ready to offload Loic Remy, plus loan men, Radamel Falcao and Alexandre Lacazette this summer. With the latter having yet to even make appearance for the Blues.
