According to The Metro, Manchester United are keen to make a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho after the club’s scouts have been keeping a close eye on him over the weekend.
United boss David Moyes will be in the midst of a transfer frenzy at Old Trafford with a number of key players said to be interested in leaving. United’s midfield has been the main cause for concern this season, so the purchase of Spain international Juan Mata will have been a positive move for the Red Devils.
But Moyes is keen to bolster his midfield options, so gaining the youngster’s signature would have a positive effect on the squad. The 21 year-old has been compared to ex-Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira because of his powerful presence and solid performances in Sporting’s midfield.
According to reports in Portugal, United have had their eye on the Portuguese for several months and he was even watched during his side’s goal-less draw against Academica on Sunday.
He will cost United a fair amount though as he is under contract with the Lisbon side until 2018 and has an impressive £37m buyout clause in his deal.
