Victor Valdes to join Middlesbrough

Free agent Victor Valdes is about to join Middlesbrough next season, after following the club on social networking site Twitter.

The former Manchester United and Barcelona goalkeeper excited Boro fans on social media by following the club’s official account on Tuesday night, with many fans now believing he will be between the posts at the Riverside Stadium next season.

There is not huge evidence that he is about to join the newly promoted Premier League side apart from following them on Twitter, but Valdes only follows three football clubs on his official account –FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Standard Liege as well as Spain’s national side – the only teams he has played for in his professional career.

Valdes, who has a very impressive CV, left Manchester United this summer after a poor spell at Old Trafford. He made just two appearances for their first-team.

An argument with former United manager Louis van Gaal saw him sent out to Belgian side Standard Liege on loan last campaign, but he is not expected to return to the Belgian side this term.

However, it is rumoured that the former Spain international wants to prove himself in the Premier League which gives another hint of where he may play his trade next season.
