Antonio Conte has ended the debate as to whether Davide Zappacosta’s first Chelsea goal was a shot or cross
The Italian confirmed that Davide Zappacosta’s first Chelsea goal was actualy supposed to be a cross, however, he was delighted with the Davide’s full debut.
Pedro opened the scoring before goals from Zappacosta, Cesar Azpilicueta, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Michy Batshuayi wrapped up a fabulous win.
Zappacosta’s strike looked as if he was aiming to cross rather than take a shot and now Conte has admitted the 25-year-old had told him that he was actually trying to pick out a team-mate
‘He told me he was aiming to cross,’ he confirmed in his post-match press conference.
He added: ‘I think it was a good result. We start the Champions League in the right way. I saw the right commitment from my players. Great focus, great concentration from the start of the game.
These are tricky games and we must pay great attention but I’m pleased for the great performance from our players.
‘I think a lot of positive things for us and Batshuayi to score and Zappacosta on his first appearance at Stamford Bridge – he played very well.
‘[Eden] Hazard is trying to find the best form and we are happy to see him running on the field. A lot of positive things.
