The England international has been advised to look for a new club after receiving the news from Louis van Gaal that he will not be in the Dutchman’s plans for the upcoming seasons.
And it appears Spurs have won the race to sign the striker after they agreed to pay £2m to acquire his services.
The United forward was hot property this summer as a number of clubs enquired about his availability including Arsenal, Newcastle, Sunderland and Hull but his preferred move is reportedly to the White Hart Lane outfit.
The 23 year-old is a very versatile attacker and can offer Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino the option to play him out wide or up top, and as the Lilywhites look to compete for a Champions League spot, Welbeck will be happy to be part of the campaign as he receives much needed playing time.
Tottenham are understood to be paying the whole of Welbeck’s United salary.
