Arsene Wenger has jumped to the defence of his massive summer signing Mezut Ozil after he has recently been publicly criticized by many fans and pundits over his recent form. After the 5-1 thrashing Arsenal received on Saturday at Anfield, Wenger admitted Ozil along with the rest of the team had a bad day, but feels the player should not be singled out.

And Wenger told his pre-match press conference: ‘He was like everyone on Saturday, he wasn’t on a good day.

He works hard in training to improve, there’s no-one to ostracise from that game. He has done well adapting to the Premier League.

‘I don’t want to put too much pressure on him. He is adapting to the pressure of the Premier League. He can deal with the criticism.’

The loss meant Chelsea who won on Saturday took control of top spot in the Premier League, however fellow rivals Man City failed to capitalise on Arsenals misfortune ands remain in third.

Arsenal now has a massive game on Wednesday night against defending champs Manchester United, who also had a disappointing weekend. Pundits and fans will be keen to see how Arsenal and especially Ozil react in this game as many are questioning if they have the steel required to go on and win the Premier League.
