Arsene Wenger has revealed why Arsenal made so few signings in summer.

After taking a lot of criticism over his activity in the summer transfer window, Arsene Wenger has revealed why.

A whole host of name were linked with The Gunners with Benzema attracting a lot of attention. In the end Arsenal only signed Chelsea goal keeper Petr Cech. Wenger, who is the longest serving current manager in the Premier League has admitted his lack of transfer activity was down to his for love of the club.

‘I’ll give myself merit for one thing: I’ve always treated Arsenal as if it belonged to me,’

‘I have sometimes been criticised for it — because I am not enough of a spender, not carefree enough.

‘I credit myself for having had the courage to apply my ideas and fight for them. Aside from that, I can understand why people might not agree,’ he added.

‘My great pride will be to be able to say the day that I leave, that I am leaving behind a good team, a healthy situation and a club capable of performing in the future,’ he said.

‘I could have said to myself: “I am here for four or five years, we win everything.” [Then] I leave and leave the club on the verge of bankruptcy. For me, consistency at the highest level is the true sign of great clubs.’
Fans have called for the club to spend more in windows to recpature the Premier League, a trophy the club haven’t won since 2004. Arsenal fans currently pay the highest tickets prices in the Premier League and expect the money to be spent on improving the club. Arsene Wenger hasn’t been afraid to spend the money on the right players though, Ozil,Sanchez and Cech have come with big price tags.

The Gunners are currently 2nd in the Premier League, equal on points with Manchester City.
