Will Man City Return To Form Against Everton?

Man City are tipped to bounce back to form against opponents Everton when the sides meet on 15th October.

Both teams come into the game having seen their positive starts to the season tarnished by poor results. Man City have failed to record a victory in their last two games, conceding 5 goals in the process. An embarrassing score-draw against a plucky Celtic side was followed by a loss against a talented and tenacious spurs at white hart lane .

Pep Guardiola’s obsession with ‘passing it from the back’ was the reason for their 0-2 defeat. During the game, Claudio Brave and Nicolas Otamendi made countless errors due to spurs’ high pressing, high energy play style. These mistakes forfeited possession in vital positions on the pitch which directly led to Dele Alli’s goal.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman will be looking to instill the same high pressure play style into his Everton team. An extended break due to international games has granted Everton the perfect opportunity to work on imitating Tottenham’s game plan and forcing mistakes from Man City’s defence. In theory, this will create openings for goal-hungry Romelu Lukaku- but is it really that easy?

The simple answer is no. Everton have recorded no wins in their last three games, meaning they come into the match low on form and confidence.  Everton’s attacking trio of Lukaku, Barkley and Bolasie are aptly labeled as match winners. They are creative and often spectacular when on the ball. not hard workers; increasing the difficulty of sustaining a high press throughout the whole 90 minutes.

Furthermore,  prolific goal-scorer Sergio Aguero failed to find the net in his previous game  for Man City. Even in the absence of key midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, the  Argentinian striker won’t fail to score again. Because of this, on paper Man city will beat Everton comfortably. But will they do on the pitch? find out on Saturday 15th October at 3pm.
