Brazilian winger Willian has committed his future to Chelsea, saying that he is very happy to stay at Stamford Bridge. The 29-year had been linked to Barcelona and Manchester United with the former making several attempts to sign him.
Willian did not have the best of relationships with Antonio Conte. However, the winger spoke to his successor Maurizio Sarri and Sarri said that he wants Willian to be a part of his scheme of things this season.
After Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield, Willian said, “I’ve always made it very clear that I’ve always been very happy playing for Chelsea. I never said that I want to leave the club. This is a new era, with a new manager and I’ve had a very good conversation with him, so I hope we can enjoy a lot of victories.”
Willian also said that Chelsea will have to adapt to Sarri’s style quickly. He said, “Without doubt, we all like this style of play, all the players. We have to do all we can to keep improving. Of course, the beginning is always a little more difficult to adapt to a new style of play, which changes everything, but we have everything we need to improve, to continue working and start the season well.”
Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
