Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has insisted he would never follow Jose Mourinho’s style of playing football.

Despite winning galore of trophies Mourinho’s brand of defensive football has earned severe criticism. The former Chelsea manager has often been urged to adopt a more positive approach at Manchester United.

Barcelona are due to face Inter Milan in a very crucial tie in the Champions League. The Spanish giants will be without their star player Lionel Messi and it remains to be seen whether Inter can take advantage of it or not.

Mourinho would be very familiar with the situation as he guided Inter to the final of the Champions League in the 2009-10 season after halting the juggernaut of a star studded Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

Xavi said, “Mourinho is a very defensive coach. Playing against his Inter wasn’t easy.

“That’s his style and he put it into practice with Chelsea and Real Madrid. He cares about all the details, he closes the gaps and he doesn’t give you space.

“I like a different kind of football. I’m not criticising, but I don’t enjoy playing football in that way and my teams will never have that attitude.”
