Toure insists Sane is destined to achieve great things in his career

Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has backed Germany’s Leroy Sane to reach great heights in his footballing career, saying that the youngster has all the qualities to be the best footballer in the world.

Sane joined Manchester City from German Bundesliga side Schalke back in 2016 for a fee of £37 million, with performance-related add-ons potentially making the fee £46.5 million.

Toure, who played with Sane for a few months, believes that the 23-year-old is destined to achieve great things in his career.

“This kid is going to continue to grow,” Toure said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“He’s going to be the best, one day, for sure.

“The best of the best because he has these qualities: he’s fast, he has good technique, he’s clever – and he wants to learn.”

Sane has been in incredible form for City in the Premier League this season, accumulating 7 goals and 8 assists to his name from 20 appearances. The German scored the winner in the 2-1 win over Liverpool on January 3 which saw the Citizens breathe new life into the title race.

The 23-year-old is contracted to the club till the end of 2021 but he has so far refused to put pen to paper on a new contract. Toure, on the other hand, is currently a free-agent after mutually terminating his contract with Olympiakos after just three months.
