Mourinho Charged!

The Football Association charge Portuguese with improper conduct after Chelsea manager enters field of play at Villa Park

Jose Mourinho has received his second improper-conduct charge of the season following Chelsea’s fractious defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday but the Portuguese is not facing the threat of a touchline ban.

The Football Association charge relates solely to how Mourinho came on to the pitch during the closing minutes of the match and approached referee Chris Foy, rather than any allegation of abusive language.

Mourinho has also avoided punishment for post-match comments in which he questioned whether Foy should officiate Chelsea games and partially used referee’s performance as part of the explanation for Ramires’ dangerous tackle on Karim El Ahmadi.

FA rule E3 says that managers must not leave the confines of their technical area during the match and, if the do, states that they could be liable to an FA charge, with a fine ranging from £8,000 to £12,000.

Mourinho was fined £8,000 in October for protesting to referee Anthony Taylor about time-wasting during his team’s 4-1 win against Cardiff City.

He has until Monday to dispute the said Charges

Sherwood tells fans “I’m going nowhere”

0

Sherwood was forced to answer questions about his future when he faced the press ahead of tonight’s Europa League tie at Benfica.

Spurs head out to Portugal on the back of three straight losses and another defeat would heap further pressure on the former Spurs midfielder.

The Londoners trail the Portugese Liga leaders 3-1 from the first leg and are without 11 first-teamers for the last-16 tie.

Louis van Gaal is the bookmakers’ favourite to replace the former Spurs midfielder and he recently fuelled speculation by reaffirming his desire to manage in the Premier League.

But Sherwood, who was given in an 18-month deal in December, was unmoved by the Netherlands manager’s latest comments.

“People ask me this all the time, he is obviously destined to want to manage in England,” Sherwood said.

“He has got a good track record, he is a good manager and I’m sure he’ll get his opportunity: he’s been shouting loud enough for it.”

Despite such comments and those questioning his future, Sherwood expects to be in charge at the start of next season and is planning accordingly.

The Spurs boss spoke about the need to alter the club’s transfer policy going forwards and downplayed reports that a deal is close for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.

“Konoplyanka is certainly one who’s being talked about, but nothing definitive,” Sherwood said.

“I think we have to make sure we see a lot more of these guys before they come in, not just the highlights, because we’ve got to make sure we do our recruitment job on them.

“I will sign the players, absolutely. Nobody else will come in here unless I sanction it. You can’t work any other way.

“The manager has got to work with the players, so unless he gets the players he wants it’s always going to be an uphill task. He will always have the excuse of, ‘well, they’re not my players’.

“Someone else has made those decisions in the past and I’ve not been privy to it. I know the type of players I want to improve the group and take it forward next season.

“It’s out of my hands but I believe I’ll be here next year. I’m planning for next season. The players are playing for their futures.”

David Moyes believes the Robin van Persie injury isn’t as serious as first thought

0

Manchester United manager David Moyes believes the Robin van Persie injury isn’t as serious as first thought, despite the Dutchman being carried off on a stretcher late on in the 3-0 win over Olympiakos on Wednesday.

The striker went down under a heavy challenge nursing his left leg, and there had been fears that the 30-year-old was set for a spell on the sidelines.

But Moyes, speaking after the game, said that Van Perise may have got off lucky,

Moyes told the BBC: “[The injury] doesn’t look that bad, he’s had a knock on the back of his knee.”

Van Persie’s hat-trick saw United overcome a two goal first leg deficit against Olympiakos to progress to the quarter finals of the Champions league, and Moyes was quick to praise his star man,

“To score a hat-trick in the Champions League is a big thing,” said Moyes,

“There are only certain players in the world who are capable of it and Robin van Persie is one of them.”

Hazard set for new contract

0

Eden Hazard will be offered a new £200,000 per week deal by Chelsea in order to warn off some of Europe’s big spenders. The young Belgian has had a fantastic season at Chelsea, establishing himself as one of the best players in the Premier League, and has attracted interest from French giants Paris Saint Germain.

PSG tried to lure Chelsea into selling him at £50million, but they are expected to return this summer with a bigger offer, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also monitering the whole situation. He is already Chelsea’s second highest earner on £180k per week, but Chelsea want to tie him down in order to solve the situation once and for all.

Hazard signed for Chelsea from french club Lille for £32million in July 2012. He had a decent first season in English football, scoring 13 goals, but has developed strongly under new boss Jose Mourinho this season, already scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists. Mourinho has already stated that he is the best young player in the world, and given some time could reach the same level as players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Raheem Sterling gives thanks to captain and manager

0

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling thinks captain Steven Gerrard and manager Brendan Rodgers are helping him to realise his huge potential. He didn’t play much earlier on in the season but he has now strated 18 times for the club in 20 games since December 1.

The winger’s fine run of form has also seen him thrown into the reckoning for an England place and he has already featured in England’s friendly against Denmark earlier this month. Sterling claimed that Gerrard was a great source of encouragement and advice. He said:

“I couldn’t ask for a better captain. Before every game he is helping me in terms of what player I am up against. To have someone like that to encourage you is great.”

Sterling is also grateful to Rodgers and added: “He was trying to get me settled off the pitch and, on it, he was telling me to be more at home, to be more relaxed on the ball and express myself. That has really helped me.

“He has made me realise I am here on merit and I’m not just here because of what I’ve done in the youth teams. When you are training with Gerrard and Luis Suarez it is a bit nerve-wracking but, after a while, you get used to it and you start being yourself and start expressing yourself. I think I am getting into that zone where I feel I can express myself to the fullest, not be shy, and come out of my shell. I am really settled and really happy to be in the team.”

Manchester City to prepare impressive bid for Luke Shaw

0

City first became interested in 18 year old Luke Shaw in January and during Southampton’s U21 match with Man City, Saints boss Maruicio Pochettino attended, with representatives of both clubs having talks over the youngster’s future. City have been encouraged by these talks and are reportedly confident they can capture the signature of the highly rated defender.

Pellegrini has highlighted the left-back position as an area of concern as Gael Clichy and Aleksander Kolorov have failed to greatly impress the Chilean.

Shaw is highly regarded as one of the country’s most promising talents and is battling with veteran Ashley Cole for a spot in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, having made his international debut against Denmark earlier this month.

Chelsea are known to be keen on signing Shaw as the defender was a boyhood Chelsea fan, but their bid may become complicated as he is represented by a Stellar group, the same management firm who represent Ashley Cole. Plus the new inclusion of Azpilicueta at the left-back position may see Shaw look elsewhere.

David Moyes was also impressed by Shaw’s performances and put a £20m bid in for the defender in January but a deal never arose, however Moyes is reportedly set to increase the bid come the summer window.

Sources expect Shaw to be advised by Stellar on which club to go to, which almost certainly means the 18 year old is set for an exit from St Mary’s in the summer.

Hazard: “It is vital to beat Arsenal”

0

Chelsea managed to come back from their disappointing 1-0 loss against Aston Villa with a 2-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League, securing their place in the last 8 of the competition.

But attention now turns back to the Premier League as nthe Blues face a crucial London derby at home to Arsenal, where Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will celebrate his 1000th game in charge of the club.

“The Champions League and the Premier League are both magnificent competitions,” Hazard said.

“The Champions League is rare because you play less often but the Premier League is so important to us and we know how important it is for the fans too.

“The game against Arsenal comes at an important moment because it follows a league defeat.

“We are going to do our best in front of our own supporters in what is a big derby game. There is no better one to win.”

A win for Chelsea sees them extend their lead at the top of the table to 7 points, but with Liverpool having 2 games in hand and Manchester City would have 4. With a visit from Arsenal and a trip to Anfield the only ‘crunch ties’ left for the Blues to face, Jose Mourinho’s side are in a good position to really push for their first league title in 4 years.

Mourinho “We are back where we belong”.

0

Jose Mourinho has stated that his side are back where they belong, following Chelsea’s superb 2-0 win against Galatasaray on Tuesday evening.

The Blues won the prestigious tournement in 2012, and goals from Samuel Eto’o and Gary Cahill took Chelsea to the last eight.

And Mourinho is quietly confident about his sides chances.

He stated to ITV Sport….

‘We are there [in the last eight] – but it’s different from last season because last season was the Europa League at a different level.

‘To come from the Europa League to the quarter-finals of the Champions League is important for the club, important for the players.

‘We are a Champions League club and now we are among the best eight, the best clubs in the world, and we are there. The players deserve to be there.’

Keita Balde Diao will cost Liverpool £12.5million according to the players agent

0

The agent of Liverpool target Keita Balde Diao claims the Reds will have to fork out £12.5million to land the exciting Lazio teenager.

Brendan Rodgers’ scouts have been watching Diao this season and the Spanish-born Senegalese forward has made 16 Serie A appearances, scoring four goals.

Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the 19-year-old and his representative says the player would like to come to England one day.

However Ulisse Savani claims Lazio president Claudio Lotito would want at least €15 million or £12.5million for Diao.

Ulisse Savini told Radiosei: “If he was to leave Lazio, we will never find a club in Italy that will buy him, assuming the important figures that [Lazio president] Claudio Lotito would ask for.

“How much is he worth? If a say a price Lotito will contradict me. But at present, according to my judgment, he cannot be worth less than €15million.

“I think Keita would be fine with a future in English football. I think that it is much better there than in Germany, for example.”

Lazio paid Barcelona just £250,000 for Keita in 2011 and are ready to open new contract talks to reward him for his progress this season.

This may be the real reason why Savani is talking up a move to England to force Lazio into offering him better terms and Liverpool have not shown any willingness to follow up their initial interest.

Savani said: “We have a contract until 2017. It is obvious in the football business around the world that it is normal to receive attention from some foreign teams every weekend.

“I honestly do not know what will happen in a year, but it is clear that the boy cannot continue to have this contract.

“But I have also learned not to be in a hurry. Previous experiences with Lazio have taught me you must be patient.

“There will be availability and a desire from both parties to sit at the table. It is just a matter of timing and I do not think that will be a problem.”

Diao started out at Barcelona, but his Nou Camp career ended before it had even begun when aged 15, he was disciplined for putting an ice cube in a team-mate’s bed during a tour to Qatar.

He was shipped out to satellite side Cornella before being sold to Lazio three years ago.

Manchester United chase Cavani.

0

Manchester United will break the bank to try and sign Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani in the summer, according to reports in both Broadsheet and Tabloid Newspapers.

Cavani only joined PSG in the summer, in a £55 million deal from Serie A side Napoli, however, reports in France claim that the Uruguay internation is unsettled.

Cavani has scored 18 goals, as the Paris club look set to secure another Ligue 1 title.

And it appears that it would be unlikely Cavani would be interested in a move, considering United’s stuttering League position.

Sir Bobby Charlton honoured

0

The Manchester United legend, who is still a director at Old Trafford, has been recognised for his lifelong service to sport after joining the Reds back in 1953 and enjoying a glittering career at the highest level.

HRH The Princess Royal handed over the award at the Royal Army and Navy Club in London at a ceremony which also honoured Winter Olympian Lizzy Yarnold.

Sir Bobby has been president of the Torch Trophy Trust since 1999, the year of the club’s famous Treble success, and is clearly a most worthy recipient of the award.

The Torch Trophy Trust is a charity that recognises and supports volunteers in sport and recreation. The annual awards are unique in celebrating the often thankless and unnoticed work of volunteers in sport.

Tesco Mobile Twitter account poke fun of David Moyes

0

It’s been a tough season for David Moyes at Manchester United and it just got a whole lot worse for the Scot after Tesco Mobile joined in on the jokes after his poor season at Old Trafford so far.

After taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson, everyone knew Moyes was going to have a tough job on his hands, but it’s been a lot worse, a whole lot worse than he could have ever imagined.

United are seventh in the Premier League, 18 points off league-leaders Chelsea, they got knocked out of both domestic cups by Sunderland and Swansea City, and they are fighting for their place in the Champions League Quarter Finals after losing 2-0 in the first-leg against Olympiakos.

Now it’s got worse for Moyes as Tesco Mobile joined in on the jokes by claiming the Scot isn’t a born-winner.

A conversation between ‘@FootyAccums’ and ‘@FourFourTom’ was taking place before one of them asking what should Moyes change to be more successful, and that is when the other replied with ‘his job’.

That was then replied with @tescomobile being introduced when they said there was vacancies with them, but unfortunately for Moyes, not even Tesco Mobile want him as they tweeted this as a reply:

‘We’re award winners… not sure he’d fit in here.’

Arsenal and United set to battle it out for Saints defender

0

Arsenal and Manchester United are set to go head to head in the battle to prise defender Calum Chambers away from Southampton this summer,

Chambers is the latest young star to emerge from the Saints’ famed academy, after the likes of Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana, and has enjoyed his breakthrough year under Mauricio Pochettino, competing with fellow right-back Nathaniel Clyne for a starting spot.

The 19-year-old has attracted admiring glances from afar and both Arsene Wenger and David Moyes are believed to be huge fans of the youngster, who seems set for big things.

Wenger’s interest in Chambers dates well back to his days as an under-16 at St Mary’s, but it has intensified with the suggestions Bacary Sagna will reject the terms offered to him by the Gunners.

That would entitle Sagna to a Bosman transfer this summer and leave Arsenal with a vacancy to fill in the right-back slot, with Chambers emerging as the first-choice option.

Sagna is reportedly demanding a three-year deal at wages of over £100,000 per week, a figure the Gunners hierarchy are seeminly not prepared to stretch to, and it has resulted in an impasse between club and player.

The report also suggests that, despite Chambers penning a new four-year contract last summer, the Saints prodigy could be available for around the £10m mark.

United will have a say in the final destination of Chambers with Moyes looking at the possibility of a triple deal which would see Lallana, Shaw and the fellow full-back move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United confident on Seamus Coleman transfer

0

David Moyes has asked for the full-back and senior figures at Old Trafford are confident of getting a deal done

Manchester United are pushing ahead with a £15million summer move for Everton defender Seamus Coleman.

United boss David Moyes wants to raid his old club for his former defender and has been given the green light to do so by the United board.

Mirror Sport has learned United’s move for Coleman is well advanced, with some Old Trafford insiders claiming an outline agreement with Everton has already been agreed.

Moyes paid just £60,000 to sign Coleman from League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers in 2008 and helped turn the 25-year-old into one of Premier League’s best full-backs.

With Moyes unconvinced by United’s current right-back Rafael, and Phil Jones and Chris Smalling more comfortable in central defence, Coleman has emerged as his top target for that position.

Coleman would be the second Everton player to follow Moyes to Old Trafford, after United paid £27.5m for Marouane Fellaini last summer. But Moyes failed in three attempts to bring Leighton Baines from Goodison Park.

Arsenal are also keen on Coleman, but it is understood United officials are confident a deal can be struck for the 25-year-old, who has been a revelation for Everton and is destined for a big-money summer move.

Bayern Munich look to hijack Arsenal for Schalke star Julian Draxler

0

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been looking to land the 20-year-old forward for some time.

But it now appears German giants Bayern are joining the chase for Draxler, who was close to moving to north London in the January transfer window.

Norwegian journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, the former Premier League striker turned Bundesliga pundit, wrote on Twitter: ‘I understand Bayern will try to make a deal with Schalke where they pay part of fee now, but Draxler will come to Bayern [in] 2015.

‘I have been told that Arsenal felt they “lost” player when Bayern entered the stage. But I understand player hasn’t decided yet.’
