Atletico beat Milan’s Ljajic bid

0

Adem Ljajic has still not signed a Fiorentina renewal and it’s reported AtleticoMadrid have beaten Milan’s offer.

The Serbian striker’s current contract expires in June 2014 and the Viola have warned he will be sold this summer unless he pens a new deal.

Milan had been the favourites to snap him up, although their €8m offer (plus performance-related bonuses) is still below Fiorentina’s asking price.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Atletico Madrid have dived in with a proposal worth €10m.

Fiorentina released an angry statement criticising Milan’s approach towards Ljajicand would be very happy to sell him abroad rather than reinforce one of theirSerie A rivals.

Luka Modric prefers Manchester United not Tottenham

0

Luka Modric wants to become David Moyes first marquee signing at Manchester United. This comes after Luka Modric refused to become part of Real Madrid’s efforts to sign top target Gareth Bale. David Moyes hasn’t given up on Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas but is considering Modric as an alternative. We understand that Manchester United are also keen on Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini who featured in Everton’s 2-2 draw against Norwich City.

Luka Modric will wait it out and has no intention of returning to White Hart Lane.

Liverpool set to wrap up Willian?

0

Liverpool, who are currently in talks with Anzhi about Willian, are closing in on completing the deal. If this occurs it would be a coup considering Manchester United have registered interest in the Brazilian winger. They would also be beating top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the punch.

Rodgers has been linked with many creative midfielders this summer with the likes of Henrikh Mhikhitaryan and Christian Eriksen but it appears Willian is the man to make the move to Anfield. Liverpool fans will be keeping one eye on this deal whilst they kick started there Premier League campaign against Stoke City with a 1-0 victory thanks to Daniel Sturridge with a first half strike that beat the inform Begovic. Will Willain be playing in there next fixture?.

Fulham sign Bent on loan

0

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent will play at Fulham this season after completing a loan move away from Villa on Friday.

The striker will be eligible to play in Fulham’s opening Barclays Premier League game of the season against Sunderland.

Bent had trouble playing regularly last season following Christian Benteke’s arrival to the club. With Benteke staying at Villa, Bent looked for places to go in order to get more time on the pitch.

Martin Jol, who worked with Bent at Tottenham back in 2007, was keen on reuniting with the 29-year-old.

Jol told the club’s website: “Darren Bent is a striker I have always admired.

“He has shown in the Barclays Premier League that he is composed and clinical in front of goal but, even if he is not scoring, he is involved in some good link-up play, creating opportunities for his team-mates.

“I’m delighted that he has joined us, he gives us pace up front and I am confident that he will add to our goals scored tally this season.”

Thomas Vermaelen knows Aston Villa will be tough

0

Arsenal defender and captain Thomas Vermaelen knows how tricky Aston Villa will be on Saturday and believes the players will have to be at their best to ensure all three points.

The Premier League campaign gets underway on Saturday and The Gunners play host to Paul Lambert’s side who narrowly avoided relegation last season.

The Villains received good news this summer after star-striker Christian Benteke sign a contract extension at Villa Park and Vermaelen knows how tough Lambert’s men will be.

“It’ll be great to get the season underway, and I think Villa will give us a really good test,” Vermaelen told the official matchday programme.

“They were in trouble for a long time last season but picked up well towards the end. I remember playing them quite late on and they gave us a difficult game, with Santi scoring a late winner for us.

“They used a lot of young players and as a result had difficulties early on, but we can see what a talented team they have. My Belgium team-mate, Christian Benteke, adapted really quickly to the league last season and will be looking to start this one well too.

“But that’s what we want ourselves – a good start, three points and a nice performance that will keep everyone’s spirits high.”

Vermaelen had an interview for Arsenal’s match-day programme and he also revealed the latest news about his fitness and his injury issues.

“I’m doing well at the moment and my recovery is going exactly as we’d hoped,” he said.

“I’m working hard, doing long days with our physios, and hope to start running again next week. If everything goes well, I’ll need a few weeks after that to get fit again.”

Arsene Wenger understands fans frustration

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he understands the fans frustrations after the club have failed to sign a big-name as of yet this summer, but he has ensured them that signings will come eventually.

Back in January, Arsenal’s chief executive revealed that the club will have up to £70million to spend in the summer on new players and they will also have the wage-budget to meet high asking demands, but as of yet, the only signing they have made is striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer.

The Gunners failed in their pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic and Luiz Gustavo, but Wenger is confident that they will eventually sign a new player and he has asked for the fans to have a little more patience.

“I understand every frustration, you have so many frustrated people, but what is important is the quality of what you do on the pitch, so let’s not create a crisis from nothing,” he said.

“We just played a good game last week [against Manchester City] so let’s transfer that to the next game and not start to convince everybody that the quality of the team that starts on Saturday will be linked with the number of players we buy between today and tomorrow.

“The quality of the team will be linked with the performance of every player who plays [against Aston Villa].”

Wenger also revealed that he is currently focusing on the Saturday game against Aston Villa, but will also work hard on signing players.

“I am optimistic of course [of making signings] but it is very difficult for me to give you a number.

“We look more for quality than for numbers. The first request is to have the quality to play for Arsenal Football Club, after the number comes in. Yes, we would like two or three players if possible but we will not compromise on the quality of the players.”

We can retain our title, insists Vidic

0

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic is confident that the club have the qualities to re-tain their Premier League title this season despite both Manchester City and Chelsea strengthening their squads this summer.

United haven’t been very successful in the transfer market so far this summer as they have failed on signing both Thiago Alcantara and also Cesc Fabregas, but the club-captain is confident that the side still have enough quality to win the Premier League title yet again.

The 2013/2014 season will be United’s first campaign under David Moyes after he took over from the retired Sir Alex Ferguson and a lot of people are suggesting that the club will suffer without having Ferguson in the dug-out.

Talking to Sky Sports News, Vidic revealed that he is confident with the squad’s depth and he is adamant that they can have yet another successful season.

“We have a good team, we have a big squad – we are the champions,” he told Sky Sports News.

“We have a lot of young players in the team and over the last two years they have improved a lot, which is important for the team and the club.

“I believe we are strong enough to compete for all trophies – one or two more signings would be good for the team but things are good.

“Cesc (Fabregas) is a good player but it’s not up to me to say who we need or not – any player who comes here will be accepted, just as I was when I came here.

“But it’s not something we think of much – we just try to focus on our game and to help the manager achieve what we really want. That’s our aim.”

Chris Smalling admits United are ready for tough start

0

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is confident that the side can start the Premier League campaign positively despite having a tricky opening five matches.

David Moyes’ men have to travel to Capital One Cup winners Swansea City for their first competitive league game under their new manager, which is then followed up with games against Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. The other fixture is against newly-promoted Crystal Palace.

The ex-Everton boss has already spoken out about the opening fixtures and has even revealed that he believes the fixtures are fixed because he doesn’t think you could randomly get drawn against three of the top seven in the first few weeks.

However, centre-back Chris Smalling believes the tough fixtures could play into their hands, especially if they get positive results.

“We’ve got some big fixtures at the start of the season but if we can put on some really good performances and pick up a few points it’s going to give us a big boost and set us apart from our rivals.

“In one sense, it is good to get them out of the way.

“The Swansea game has been in our minds for a while. Going into the season as champions brings an expectation.

“We’re seen as the best but we know we need to show it but we’re firing and ready to go. We can’t wait for that first whistle.”

Despite being ready for the season, Smalling admits that it’s going to be tough for him to get a first-team spot.

“It does make it tough,” he added. “When I first joined, there were a lot of centre-backs and it was the same last season.

“It makes it really competitive because everyone is looking for one of those two spots. It keeps us on our toes that’s for sure.

“I just want to stay injury free. Being out was so frustrating. I don’t think I played after Easter because of my foot.

“It makes such a difference when you get a proper pre-season under your belt. Without it, you are catching up a little bit. I feel good at the moment. I’m not far off (being 100% match fit) now. I feel confident and it is just about getting that sharpness back.”

Falcao can leave Monaco this summer!

0

AS Monaco have reportedly had to transfer list Falcao after only buying the Columbian this summer, reports suggest Real Madrid and Chelsea are the top two favourites to sign him.

Reports also suggest that Monaco have to sell due to a problem with taxation, meaning all players must be taxed whilst playing on French soil.

Manchester United are also eyeing him as a Rooney replacement if the Englishmen should move this summer.

Where shall he go?
