Europe’s Most Valuable Players League By League

The German Bundesliga has been in the news a fair bit recently, with the big move of England captain Harry Kane to Bayern Munich. But despite the high-profile transfer, Kane is not the most valuable player currently in the Bundesliga.

Punters who sign up to bet9ja or any other sportsbook are in for another fantastic European soccer betting season, meanwhile let’s take a look at the most valuable player from each of the five major European leagues in the new season. These are the perceived current transfer market values taken from Transfermarkt at the start of August 2023. The info is in Euros and what the market value at the time was, not what clubs paid for the players.

Bundesliga

Harry Kane’s move to the Bundesliga from Premier League side Tottenham was worth around €100.00m, about €10.00m above the market value that he was running at. So Spurs got a good deal, while Bayern Munich didn’t overpay too much for a superstar.

But the most valuable player in the German top flight is one of Kane’s new teammates Jamal Musiala. The German international, who was also eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland, was rated at €110.00m in the transfer market at the start of the new season. The 20-year-old moved to Bayern as a youth player from Chelsea for just €200k in 2019.

Serie A

There is little surprise about who is currently the most valuable player in Serie A. Victor Osimhen, who helped fire Napoli to last season’s Scudetto, is currently rated at €120.00m. Napoli purchased the prolific Nigerian forward from French side Lille in 2020, paying €75.00m, more than double the estimated market value of the player at the time. It paid off and when the ultimate transfer happens taking Osimhen away from Serie A, Napoli are going to cash-in big time.

La Liga

Because of the spending power that Real Madrid and Barcelona have had over the years, it’s become second nature to see some huge market value on players. But who was the most valuable player in the Spanish top flight at the start of the 2023/24 season? Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior.

The Brazilian was rated at €150.00m in the transfer market. The attacker has become a major focal point of Real Madrid’s future and the former Flamengo player has seen his value go through the roof during his time at the Bernabéu. Júnior moved to Real Madrid for €45.00m in 2018, €10.00m above the market value at the time.

Ligue 1

Going on the data at the start of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season, the most valuable player in the French top flight was Kylian Mbappé €180.00m. With speculation around his future, as he goes into the final year of his contract with PSG, he trumps anyone else.

The 25-year-old could move as a free transfer in the summer of 2024, which would be a big blow for PSG financially. Mbappé was purchased by PSG in 2018 for €180.00m when rated at €120.00m, from Monaco.

Premier League

The English top flight is a hotbed of some of the best talent in the world, with staggering transfer fees of more than €100.00m becoming more and more commonplace. But who was rated as the most valuable player in the league at the start of the 2023/24 season?

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland at €180.00m. Last season’s EPL Golden Boot winner, who won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles in his first season with the Citizens, was purchased by City for a €60.00m fee in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund, despite his market value at the time being €150.00m.
