Player With The Most International goals

Ali Daei is undoubtedly the finest footballer to have come out of Iran. From 1993-2006, Daei played 149 matches for Iran, scoring 109 goals.

During his time with the national team, Ali Daei helped Iran to third place at the 1996 Asian Cup. His 8 goals in that tournament is a tally that is yet to be bettered. He is the all-time top scorer in Asian Cup history with 14 goals.

Daei helped Iran qualify for their maiden World Cup in 1998, scoring 9 goals during the qualifiers. He also captained Iran at the 2006 World Cup after which, he retired from international football.

Daei’s record of most number of goals in international football has stood for 12 years now. Until and unless, Ronaldo plays for another 2-3 years, Daei’s record will stand for quite a while.

Godfrey Chitalu goals

One of the best African foootballers of his generation, Godfrey Chitalu is the fifth highest international goalscorer of all-time with 79 goals in 108 matches.

Chitalu helped Zambia qualify for their first African Cup of Nations in 1974. Zambia eventually reached the final of the tournament where they lost to Zaire.

Chitalu retired from the national team in 1980. In 1993, he became coach of the national team. Sadly, Chitalu and the entire Zambia team were killed in a plane crash that same year.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is the currently active player with the most number of goals in international football and the only active footballer in the top 10. He also has the most number of goals by a European player in international football.
