Manchester United have had some world class players, well, a LOT of world class players, but for every world class player a top club signs, there’s one player who didn’t quite live up to expectations – or in some cases, come anywhere close, really. Here we will look at the Top ten Man United flops of all time.

This time it’s Manchester United’s turn for a grilling, as we countdown the Worst Manchester United Players of All Time.

Top 10 Worst Manchester United Players of All Time

10. Zoran Tosic

Joined: January 2009; Fee: £7 million; Appearances: 5; Goals: 0

Remember him? Kind of? Us too. Tosic was seen as the successor to United legend Ryan Giggs (a tough billing to live up to from the start, then?) after some eye-catching performances for Partizan Belgrade.

He arrived to much excitement, being seen as an incredible young talent and potentially a big star for United in the future, but it didn’t quite turn out that way, as he only managed to rack up 79 minutes in TOTAL for United, as he struggled desperately to adapt to English football, as so many do. Eventually, in June 2010, he was shipped off for an undisclosed fee to CSKA Moscow, where he still plays to this day.

9. Juan Sebastian Veron

Joined: July 2001; Fee: £28.1m; Appearances: 82; Goals: 11

Argentina international Veron arrived at Old Trafford to a lot of excitement, being seen as the very man and type of player United needed to take their already strong side to the next level, with Alex Furgeson famously touting him as a “world-class footballer” who would “bring personality” to the side.

At times in European games, Veron showed that he did indeed have that touch of class, but in England he struggled to make much of an impact for United, and struggled to get into the side due to the faster pace of the Premier League. Eventually, he was allowed to leave for Chelsea, for around 15m, after spending two years at United that he would probably rather forget – as most people have. Watch & Bet Football Live >

8. Kleberson

Joined: August 2003; Fee: £6.5m; Appearances: 30; Goals: 2

Remember Kleberson? Of course you don’t! The player that United unveiled the same day as Cristiano Ronaldo – see, you do remember!

The World Cup winning Brazilian was actually brought in to replace the before mentioned Veron, but turned out to be just as bad a signing for the Red Devils. He spent a forgettable two years at United, and even dislocated his shoulder in just his second start – pretty much summing up his entire time in England.

7. Wilfried Zaha

Joined: January 2013; Fee: £15m Appearances: 4; Goals: 0

After singing for United, Zaha was another young lad who caused a lot of excitement with the fans, with bags of potential and seemingly a very good attitude, David Moyes struggled to bring the best out of him (As he did with United in general, really.)

After Louis van Gaal’s arrival, he was allowed to rejoin former side Crystal Palace on loan – before the deal became a permanent one, with everybody just sort of forgetting about the whole ordeal.

6. Massimo Taibi

Joined: August 1999; Fee: £4.5m; Appearances: 4, Clean Sheets: 0;

Massimo Taibi. You know, the one that got nutmegged that time?

Unfortunately, that just about sums up Taibi’s experience in Manchester, which saw him concede 11 goals in just FOUR appearances. His last run out for United was against Chelsea, in which he let 5 past him and into the United net.

Oh.. dear. He was eventually shipped out to Regina in 2000.

5. Memphis Depay

Joined: May 2015; Fee: £25m Appearances: 53; Goals: 7

Manchester United fans have a habit of dubbing people “the next Ronaldo” – and it never really seems to work out.

Depay was brought in by Louis van Gaal, and on the surface seemed like a half decent signing, but under the watchful gaze Jose Mourinho, he only ran out four times this season with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all way ahead of him in the mind of United’s manager.

4. Radamel Falcao

Joined: September 2014; Fee: £16m (total loan deal) Appearances: 29; Goals: 4

Once one of the most feared strikers in the world, many would have thought signing Falcao on loan from Monaco made nothing but sense. Unfortunately, whatever skill Falcao had during his time with Atletico Madrid and Porto didn’t seem to transcend well to the Premier League.

The deal to bring the Colombian to Old Trafford cost the club an outrageous £16m with £6m going to Monaco the rest going toward his £265,000-a-week wage. He then went back to Monaco, on loan to Chelsea, (equally as forgettable), and is now back with Monaco. Watch & Bet Football Live >

3. Eric Djemba-Djemba

Joined: £3.5m; Fee: July 2003 Appearances: 39; Goals: 2

He was supposed to be the long term replacement for Roy Keane, but, spoiler, he wasn’t. He spent 18 months with Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, and it was nothing short of a complete failure.

He’s currently on loan at Indonesian Village Sunday League Persipa Padalarang. Indonesian Village Sunday League.

Just read that over and over until you grasp how ridiculous we felt typing it.

2. Angel di Maria

Joined: August 2014; Fee: £59.7m Appearances: 32; Goals: 4

Almost 60 MILLION.

At the time, this was the British record transfer fee, with the Argentinian winger being brought over from Real Madrid. His performances didn’t warrant the fee whatsoever, with the majority of his time in Manchester best left forgotten, even by HIM, after he said in an interview:

“Manchester was a sad experience. Things did not go the way I expected, I was disappointed and I could not surface. Honestly, I don’t remember what happened and I don’t want to remember.”

Nor do Manchester United fans, Angel, trust me. Because of Di Maria’s price, he has to go down as one of the biggest Man United flops of all time.

1. Bebe

Joined: August 2010; Fee: £7.4m; Appearances: 7; Goals: 1

Here we have the biggest Man United flops of all time. Bebe was never even watched by Alex Ferguson, he was signed on the recommendation of assistant Carlos Queiroz, and before this, Bebe was completely unknown in his country, before United forked out £7.4million to sign him from a club he had only joined five weeks prior (red flags, how many red flags?)

The biggest thing about this, is that rival fans still mock Manchester United for it even today, and, to be honest.. so they should. Awful. Watch & Bet Football Live >
