10. José Manuel Pinto (Barcelona)

Starting the list of the Top 10 Worst Pep Guardiola Signings is Jose Manuel Pinto. The goalkeeper was not technically a Pep Guardiola signing but we put him on the list because he joined the club on the same day as the head coach. Jose Manuel Pinto was brought at the club on loan as a Victor Valdes cover but sealed a permanent deal after appearing in three games for the catalans.

Pinto will probably remembered at the club for his faithfulness and loyalty he had for his team.

9. Jan Kirchhoff (Bayern Munich)

In ninth is a Bayern Munich transfer. Although the center back arrived at the club on a free transfer from Mainz which didn’t involve Bayern Munchen to break their back for his services. Kirchhoff found it hard for him to break into the first team with Boateng and Benatia preferred over the German defender

The German only managed to play 144 minutes in 12 games for the Bavarians before heading out on loan to Schalke the whole of last seasons, he also failed to make an impact at the loan club.

His return to the German Champions was impactful and was sold off to Premier League team Sunderland for undisclosed fee.

8. Ibrahim Afellay (Barcelona)

Ibrahim Affelay makes the list. The Dutch player  was signed by Pep Guardiola in 2011 for a bargain fee of £2.25 million, but things did not go as planned in the star-studded Barcelona squad. In the fist season with the team the young player become a bit part of the team but injuries ruined his second season with the Catalans.

On his return from injury the Dutch man was sent out on loan to regain fitness at Schalke and Greek team Olympiacos but did not quite make an impact at the club.

The Netherlands international played 35 games for Barcelona in which 24 of those he came on as a substitute.

7. Pepe Reina (Bayern Munich)

Pepe Reina makes it to seventh of the list. The Spaniard goalkeeper joined Bayern Munchen from Liverpool in the summer of 2014 for a fee of £2.25 million. The former Liverpool first choice goalkeeper was brought into the team to challenge Manuel Neuer for the first team spot but only managed three first team appearances for the Bavarian his third being his last which was against Augsburg before joining off with Italian Serie A club Napoli which will be unforgettable for the keeper as he was just sent off in just 13 minutes after bringing down Raul Bobadilla in the penalty area which was converted and proved to be decisive as Augsburg went on to win the game 0-1.

6. Henrique (Barcelona)

In sixth of the Top 10 Worst Pep Guardiola Signings is Henrique who was signed by Pep Guardiola for just £6 million at ther age of 21. The young player joined the club just right after the appointment of Pep Guardiola as Barcelona coach. He managed to make a single appearance for the Catalans before he was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen.

Henrique retured to Brazil after a brief stint with Napoli in the Serie A where he made his debut for Brazil in 2008 and was deemed to be a potential great but things didn’t go as planned.

5. Martín Cáceres (Barcelona)

Currently playing in the Serie A with Juventus. Martin Joined Barcelona in 2008n from Villareal for £12.38 million, Despite not making a single appearance for Villareal his loan out with Recreativo convinced Pep that the defender would be a great addition to the Barcelona team. Unfortunately, his poor performances and competition for well establish Barcelona stars and a couple of injuries meant that the defenders career at Barcelona was going nowhere.

He only managed to make 23 appearances for the club in what was his first and last season in the Catalan capital after being sent on loan at Juventus then Sevilla before finally leaving for just £2.25 million.

4. Dmytro Chygrynskiy (Barcelona)

Dmytro Chygrynskiy takes up fourth place on the Top 10 Worst Guardiola signings. The Ukrainian was signed by Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2009 for £18.75 million, becoming the first Ukrainian to represent Barcelona. The defender was rated highly by Pep after he won five championships with Shakhtar in the Ukrainian League and was deemed to be a long-term replacement for the ageing Carles Puyol but that wasn’t the case because even Carles Puyol was in better shape than the youngster.

In Ukrainian first season with Barcelona didn’t go as expected, he only managed to make 14 appearances for the team and was sold back to Shakhtar Donetsk for £11.25 million.

3. Aleksandr Hleb (Barcelona)

Midfielder Aleksandr Hleb was one of Pep Guardiola’s first signings after becoming head coach. The midfielder was signed for a fee of £12.75 million in 2008. The signings of Hleb looked to be an amazing addition to the team following his brilliant performances with Arsenal and a few good seasons in the Premier League.

Everyone expected Hleb to get into the first team easily but things didn’t go as expected. The Belarusian’s became a bech warmer at the club. After a number of loans with Stuttgart, Birmingham City and Wolfsburg the Belarusian moved to the Russian League withKrylia Sovetov and has since never shown the quality displays he shown in London with the Gunners.

2. Keirrison (Barcelona)

This signing has to go down as one of the worst signings by Pep Guardiola although the blame has to mainly go to the president of the Catalans for overseeing this transfer. The club spent a fee of £10.5 million which is a huge transfer fee considering that no one had heard of the Brazilian that time. The transfer was a failure as the player failed to make a single appearance for the Spanish giants.

The Brazilian forward was loaned out to a couple of clubs Benfica, Fiorentina, Santos, Cruzeiro and Coritiba before finally leaving the club.

1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Barcelona)

Number one on our list of the Worst Pep Guardiola Signings is Ibrahimovic. Without any doubt Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the worst ever signing by Pep Guardiola. The Swedish striker completed his dream move in 2009 for a fee of £52.13 million which saw Samuel Eto’o going in the opposite direction. His start to a new life in Spain started off in style scoring in his first five league games setting a record in the process.

Although the Swede was playing well in his first season he felt out of favour in his position to Lionel Messi and his playing time was limited. Zlatan joined AC Milan at the end of the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was an excellent signing for the Catalans scoring 22 goals in 46 games but it has to go down as one of Pep Guardiola’s signings because of personality clashes with the head coach which made him leave the club.
