Ibra announced his decision to leave LA Galaxy, so we look at which clubs are likely to be in the hunt for his signature.

Top 5 Zlatan Ibrahimovic destinations? Zlatan Ibrahimovic caused quite a stir in the news last week, when he confirmed he would leave LA Galaxy once his contract ends at the end of the year. The 38-year-old striker has enjoyed a successful spell in Major League Soccer since arriving from Manchester United in March 2018, scoring 52 goals in only 56 appearances for the Galaxy.

Not one for leaving quietly out the back door, Ibrahimovic posted a message on social media promising to continue his career and thanked fans for making him “feel alive again. “I came, I saw, I conquered,” he tweeted, alongside artwork of him overlooking Los Angeles. “To the Galaxy fans — you wanted Zlatan, I gave you Zlatan. You are welcome. The story continues … Now go back to watch baseball.”

With January just around the corner then, various rumours have begun to circulate around Ibrahimovic’s next club. In accordance with such news, we’ve taken a look into the updated betting market to see where they fancy him to end up.

Napoli could emerge as a surprise destination because of the Carlo Ancelotti factor.

Ibrahimovic has played under Ancelotti in the past, during his stint at Paris Saint-Germain. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had recently confirmed to the media that the club was interested in signing the Swedish international. De Laurentiis told that Ibrahimovic is a friend and that he had met him in Los Angeles, not as a footballer but as a normal person because they were in the same hotel.

That he invited him over for dinner with his wife and kids and they had an amazing time. The president went on to confirm that it would be his wish to see him in Napoli colours, it is more than a suggestion and it depends on him and that it has been talked about for a few months now.

Earlier in November, Ibrahimovic had teased fans across the world, not just in Spain, by sharing a post on Instagram suggesting he was going back to La Liga. The former Manchester United star played for Barcelona from 2009 to 2011 winning four trophies, including the league title during his one full season there.

“Zlatan is now welcoming Spanish players to bethard.es. Don’t forget to play responsibly, jugarbien.es”, he later tweeted revealing that the whole return to Spain talk was just a marketing stunt. And it’s fair to say fans were left thoroughly underwhelmed by the whole situation.

However, despite that, it is thought that goal-shy Atletico Madrid have shown interest in luring him, now that striker Diego Costa is expected to be out of action for about three months.

Bologna is currently struggling in the Serie A and sit just three points above the relegation zone. Their manager Sinisa Mihajlovic knows Ibrahimovic from the duo’s time together at Inter Milan and their relationship could convince the star to sign on the dotted line.

Earlier this month Bologna’s club director Riccardo Bignon confirmed that the two parties are in talks: “Over the last few months, Ibra and Mihajlovic have been in touch, also because of a difficult period for Sinisa. They have been sharing opinions about the Swedish player’s future, and he is the only one who will be able to decide where it lies.

“Over the next few months, we will get to know where his future lies, we still don’t know where he will go. The idea of him joining Bologna is fascinating, the phone calls between the coach and Ibra are there and if he wants to return to Italy, we are ready.

2. Tottenham – 7/2 odds to become Ibrahmovic next destination

Pochettino’s sacking and Mourinho’s arrival at the North London side, has made them the second top-runner on the Top 5 Zlatan Ibrahimovic destinations list, at least according to the bookmakers. As well as improving upon a disastrous set of results so far this season that has left Spurs struggling down in 14th place, Mourinho will of course look to improve on a squad that has been left with internal divides, including a number of key stars whom are nearing the ends of their contracts.

It’s thought Mourinho has already handed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy a list of would-be targets ahead of the January window – and it appears likely the club will open the chequebook in a bid to climb their way up the Premier League and bolster their hopes of another solid run in the Champions League.

The Daily Star now claim that Tottenham would have the budget to satisfy the Swede’s wage requirements, as Mourinho is willing to use the relationship with him in order to make the move possible. The two have already been working together in Manchester United.

AC Milan, where he won the Serie A title in 2011, are the top front-runners on the Top 5 Zlatan Ibrahimovic destinations list. Ibra’s agent, Mino Raiola, has reportedly offered the striker’s services to the Rossoneri in recent weeks and the Italian side is reportedly interested in taking him back.

Earlier, MLS commissioner Don Garber revealed how he “was being recruited by AC Milan”. The Rossoneri need experience and possibly another guarantor of goals now that Krzysztof Piatek, the man who replaced Gonzalo Higuain, is going through a serious dip in form. For the AC Milan directors Zvonomir Boban and Paolo Maldini, the return of the Swede veteran is more than an idea, especially if the problems of the forward area continue.

Ibrahimovic already loves the club and on top of his own feelings, his partner Helena loves the city and would be happy to return to Lombardia.

It cannon be excluded that even though so many popular and top clubs are keen on signing him, Ibra could end up handing his boots at the beginning of 2020.

As recently as his birthday on October 3, he gave an interview with a Swedish reporter and he forged a strong impression that this would be Zlatan’s last season before hanging up his boots: “It took me three months to convince everyone who I was. That was the challenge and I never turn down a challenge.

“If I can be negative the time difference is too big because of all my family from Sweden and I only have a short time to connect with them.”
