The Brazilian defender has been struggling with an injury since Sergio Aguero’s red card tackle on him in early December.
Luiz has struggled with injury in the last few weeks, and the FA Cup game provided a good opportunity for Antonio Conte to rest him.
‘For Luiz, we have the opportunity to give him a week to recover very well and to prepare for the next game,’ the Chelsea boss said in a press conference.
Conte added that the 29-year-old’s condition was improving and that a week of work with the Chelsea medical staff should get him ready to go again in their next league match against Swansea on 25 February.
