Bundesliga side want to bring defender back on loan

Augsburg are interested in re-signing Abdul Baba Rahman from Chelsea even if it is just on a short-term loan deal.

The full-back left the Bundesliga club over the summer after agreeing to switch to the Premier League champions. Rahman was signed as a Filipe Luis replacement, who re-joined Atletico Madrid.

However, both Jose Mourinho and now Guus Hiddink have preferred to use Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back, leaving Rahman out of the first-team squad and struggling for first-team football.

The Blues splashed out ÂŁ21million when signing the full-back, but due to a lack of opportunities, he’s failed to justify that price-tag and could already be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

After just nine appearances for Chelsea, Rahman is already being linked with a return to his former-club, with some reports claiming they want to secure him on a loan deal until the end of the season.

It’s understood officials from both clubs have discussed a potential loan deal for the 21-year-old, with both parties eager to give the player game-time.

Rahman was asked about his situation, and he admitted he’s currently frustrated with life on the bench.

Rahman Frustrated

“Of course it’s frustrating for any footballer to sit in the stands. Its not something I’ve experienced a lot of,” he told German newspaper Bild.

“As a young player you have to to get used to it, and I have to get accustomed to life at a big club and this world-class league.

“In my view, the first half year was quite okay. But in the second half I will definitely look to play more.”
