Jamie Carragher thinks striker would suit Blues better

Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Christian Benteke would have suited Chelsea better.

The Belgium international completed his mega-money move to Anfield yesterday after the club agreed to trigger his release clause of ÂŁ32.4million.

It makes the striker Liverpool‘s most expensive signing this summer, eclipsing what they paid Hoffenheim for Robert Firmino.

Brendan Rodgers needed a striker to add to his squad however, especially with three possibly leaving the club, but a club legend believes Benteke has made the wrong move.

Carragher believes the 24-year-old should have swapped Aston Villa for Chelsea rather than for Liverpool.

Carragher Discusses Deal

“The hope at Liverpool is that surrounding him with better players will see him become even more devastating and consistent,” Carragher wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“I like him as a striker and actually think he would be great for Chelsea.

“Jose Mourinho likes that profile of forward and sets his teams up to get the best out of them.”

Benteke is a proven Premier League goalscorer, netting 42 goals in 89 Premier League appearances and Rodgers will be hoping he can bring the best out of him.
